Cinnamon AppleSauce

Winter is hitting in the midwest. As the sun continues to sleep through the day, warm tasty treats headed my way!

I am currently living with my parents and wanted to make a healthy treat for us! My mother also has some heart problems so she is very restricted in her diet. The perfect solution came to be, applesauce! I love applesauce, especially in this winter weather! My favorite is to put it in a bowl of oatmeal with some bananas on top. Yum!

Ingredients:

7 Medium Apples

Cinnamon

1/3 cup real Maple Syrup or Honey

2 cups Water

Instructions:

1. First I grabbed a bag of apples. I wasn't looking for a specific apple, just some that looked good and were about medium sized. It is winter in the midwest so not all produce is available!! I ended up going with 7 honeycrisp apples. I thought they were a good pick because my mom likes super sour green ones. Where I on the other hand will gladly eat a red delicious.

2. When I got home, after cleaning off and removing the stickers, I started to

cut up the apples into 1 inch cubes. Then put the apples in a bowl. Then in the bowl I added enough cinnamon to generously coat the apple cubes. After, I mixed in a fresh squeezed lemon and ⅓ cup of real maple syrup.

3. As I was finishing up with the mixings, I found a medium to large saucepan. I put in cups of water and let that warm up before adding the apples. Once warmed, I slowly added the apples and mixed them around for about 30 seconds. I topped it off with a little more cinnamon and then let it sit under low/medium heat.

4. Cooking always has love in it, so it's important to nurture and care for the food. The apples should be periodically turned around and bathed with the cinnamon water. Do this until the apples are tender. Could be between 30-45 minutes. Also do not forget to taste along the way! Feel free to add more cinnamon or whatever to it!

5. Once the apples are tender then mash until the sauce is the consistency of which you desire. I like my sauce a little more chunky with substance!
